Henry Louis Belmont (left) a student of the National Watchmaking School at Besançon founded Yema in 1948.

The company from the very beginning focused on sports watches, particularly diving watches. Here are examples pictured in an ad for Yema in June 1956. One, in particular, is named the "Superman" model (right)
