Louis Armstrong Receives Ernest Borel Watch

 By Bruce Shawkey

This article appeared in a 1956 issue of Europa Star magazine about Louis Armstrong:

The success achieved by Louis Armstrong during his recent trip to Europe proves that the Swiss have a lively interest in jazz music. Enthusiastic audiences wildly applauded Louis Armstrong and his orchestra, who were highly appreciated by a great number of admirers. Certain of them even had the urge to epress their feelings for him by offering him gifts of all sorts. It was thus that Neuchatel lovers of jazz had the idea to present to the great musician of New Orleans a watch which would symbolize the product of the principal industry of our country.

The accompanying illustration shows Louis Armstrong at the moment he was about to receive from the Hot Club of Neuchatel  a gold Ernest Borel automatic calendar watch.
