The Allure of Perfume

What does perfume have to do with watches? At one time, it was common for jewelry stores to sell perfume as an accessory to women's watches and jewelry. Here is an article on the allure of perfume that ran in a 1956 issue of Europa Star magazine:

Perfume, like clothes,  must be adapted to circumstances and above all the personality of the user.

It is well known that light scents suits fair Scandinavians and that peppery scents are meant for chestnut brunettes, while heady scents are the prerogative of raven-haired South Americans. Too violent a perfume shocks on a teenager who should keep to floral essences.
